Due to updated regulations in the Netherlands, our payment provider, Stripe, now requires a KVK (Kamer van Koophandel) registration number for account verification. This applies to anyone offering services and receiving payments via the platform — including cat sitters.
While we understand that many sitters earn a small side income and may not have previously needed to register as a business, Stripe’s current process requires this information as part of its identity and compliance checks.
We are actively working with Stripe and the relevant authorities to clarify whether this requirement applies to all self-employed cat sitters, regardless of income. In the meantime, If you’re unsure whether you need to register, we recommend speaking directly with the KVK or a tax advisor.
We’ll continue updating this page as soon as we receive more guidance from Stripe and Dutch authorities. We will also be in touch to help you complete your profile.
What is a KVK number?
The Kamer van Koophandel (KVK) is the Dutch Chamber of Commerce. Anyone starting a business or offering services regularly for payment may be required to register with them.
When you register, you’ll receive a KVK number, which confirms your status as a self-employed individual (zzp'er or freelancer) in the Netherlands.
